Seven Deca Logues the Skulls by Olchar Lindsann

CLICK HERE to view Olchar's poem written for the occasion of JMB's 70th birthday.

In addition, below are some of Olchar's favorite qoutations:

"I do not abandon the hope that nothing is finished yet, I am here, and so are several friends who have a love of life, a life we do not know and which interests us for that very reason."
-Francis Picabia, Thank You, Francis!, c.1922.

"This is again a hieroglyph of 'Love is the law, love under will'. Every form of energy must be directed, must be applied with integrity, to the full satisfaction of its destiny."
-Aleister Crowley, The Book of Thoth, 1944.

"You talk like a Rosicrucian, who will love nothing but a sylph, who does not believe in the existence of a sylph, and yet who quarrels with the whole universe for not containing a sylph.”
-Thomas Love Peacock, Nightmare Abbey, 1818.

'And, drunk with my folly, I screamed at him furiously: 'Make life beautiful! Make life beautiful!'
        -Charles Baudelaire, 'Paris Spleen', 1869.

A FABLE from Marsha Hamilton for JMB's 70th

CLICK HERE to read a fable written by Marsha Hamilton for the70project - Marsha is the the fairy godmother (though she's only one year older than me!) who sewed my wedding gown. On my wedding day, she gave me the same advice her mother gave to her on her own wedding day: She delivered this advice with perfect timing - "On this eve of your wedding, when you & your husband are in bed and you look at him (in the buff)... Don't Laugh." - and a straight face. Thanks Marsha! Good advice for any newly wed. - CMB

Jack Foley's 3 Chairs for JMB (via FB comment)

Vincent's chair
Three-legged chair
Chair with castor wheels
(wheelchair for an extra)

Not one of these is a department chair.
(Or a department store.) All chairs are cheered.
All cheers are tremendous.
Not one of them makes us chary.
Cheers for chairs and many years of funpuns for John.
--El Charro

Para John M. Bennett por Ivan Argüelles

By Ivan Argüelles

devasatador e imperfecto
me llaman desde su antro
de mitos indescifrables
porque en ese momento preciso
me encuentro también dentro
de lo inmenso que es el caos
del primer pensamiento
el de espuma y enojo sin luz
porque tan furiosamente me
encuentro en lo inmenso
que no hay luna que me dé
sus manos ahogadas para
conducirme hasta la otra orilla
que no hay estrella que me haga
animal de hocico acendrado
en busca de su amor/sombra

no hay planeta tan derrumbado
que no tenga su espejo roto
su otro del tamaño de tinta china
ni su poco de espesura que es
el agua quebrada del pasado
pero a nosotros ¿quien nos arrojó
dentro de esta vida tan frágil
de yerba y rocío sin esperanza?
¿quien nos sacó de ese siglo
cuando vivimos en el útero?
¿para qué seguir caminando
para qué seguir en ese gran “entonces”
donde no se pueden vislumbrar
los otros “pues”? y siempre
llega más tarde el “nunca”
de las vidas paralelas del sal
pero ¿para qué seguir hasta
el puro y mero fin del dia?
¿sin el olfato de la hormiga
qué se sabe del mundo anterior?
hasta las abejas en su infierno
de hielo saben lo poco que
queda de la luz inmemorial
pero de nosotros ¿qué queda
nada sino el ruido de nuestra
caída inefable hacia qué?

día tras día en lo inmenso
que es la arena de los sueños
esa playa infinita de gris queriendo
ser amarillo sin decir nada
del rojo color de los dioses
que se esconden en la piel
del aire para atisbar lo tonto
de los hombres en sus quehaceres
locos e innumerables atravesando
lo inmenso del inconsciente
llamando a veces a un amante
sin nombre a un amante ya
perdido en las redes de la memoria
¿acaso somos seres sin peso?”
¿con qué manos pensar ternura?
vamos caminando postergando
las huellas del porvenir nomás
para encontrar el bulto invisible
de un ayer desconocido y verde
como una torre de hiedra
pulsante con lo inmenso
eso de las historias sin palabras
que se cuentan antes de nacer
a los de la fase inescrutable
de la muerte bailando como
luciérnagas en su cielo de
selvas inmensas y erróneas
una añoranza sin plenitud
¡ese vacío inagotable
lo inmenso!
tantas lágrimas derramadas
para el hermano ausente
el que al doblar la esquina
se fué hacia los mares de luz
en busca de su propio nombre
en busca de su césped
donde lo inmenso
cae de su sombra
más abajo
de todo
lo dicho

A DREAM from Roger Santiváñez

A Dream
[Para John Bennett, en sus 70 years old, esta canción sobre el paso del tiempo]

Como un lucero tanto te quise
Lucero tanto te quiero me qui
Siste tanto en esos días felices

De tu infancia pura un pole
Mita decías mientras íbamos
A tomar helados esa tarde

30 de diciembre tu santo
En el carro de tu abuelo
Papá Aníbal que ya no regresó

Pero tú seguiste para siempre
En mi canción tocaste la
Mandolina de carey sobre

Viviendo la niñez adolescente
En La Molina la casita de
Juguete era un lindo sitio

Donde anidó la belleza
Que pudimos conservar
Como los frascos de Mamá Lola’s

Pickles para el día final
Recuerda el cuadro de Sarita
Colonia en tu ropero &

   Su pura luz rosada
